Hello from San Antonio, tx

I have been lurking for awhile now, and thought I'd introduce myself. Well, not myself, but my truck, I guess, which is what really matters, right?

I have a 72 lwb which was bought new by my Grandfather in Odessa, Texas. He bought the truck to tow his boat to the water, which, in Odessa, is quite some ways away.

Our family in Odessa was in the oilfield business, and my grandfather took the truck to a friend of his to have a hitch put on it. What a hitch it is!!! We've always called it the knee-knocker, and I'm going to have a time getting it off. Apparently they welded it onto the frame using whatever scrap metal was lying around, which apparently was 1/2 inch plate steel!

When my grandfather passed, my Dad and I took the truck, and it became my dad's. I drove that truck all over central Texas as a teenager, and always enjoyed driving it. My sister learned to drive in it.

When my dad passed, the truck was parked, and left to rust away at my mom's place. A few years back, while visiting I saw the truck again, and I just knew I had to restore it. I now have it sitting in my barn, patiently waiting for me to start that process, and I can't wait to get started!

So, that is why I have been lurking here for awhile, avidly reading all the FAQs, and learning a lot, and I appreciate the wealth of information available here. I am also thrilled to have learned that parts are available. I really, REALLY want to get the truck running and fixed up nice again, and relive my youth... lol

So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I look forward to continuing to get to know folks on the board and learning, and enjoying other member's pictures and tall tales as well.

Here is a shot of the truck as it sits in the Barn now. I have just started piddling with the rust on the hood, but haven't really begun any work yet. SOON, though... soon...
