4" lift and rear drum brake valve

I want to put a 4" lift on my 89 burb. I have that load valve on the rear, and was wondering what everyone else does about them when they put their lift on. Can I take it off? Is it really that neccessary? I can understand on a pickup, but a suburban has so much more weight in the back. What do you guys do?
