Door reinforcements

I predict nobody will post a reply but I've been wanting to install crush beams or tubes in the doors of my 68 C10 just like new cars have to better protect against a side impact. Driving in SoCal makes me fear for my life everday on the freeways here. Not sure if this can be done and if the window regulator would hit or not. Also not sure the best way to do this to maximize protection. I can weld but don't have a lot of fabrication equipment, no tubing bender, no sheet metal brake, etc. Has anyone ever done this? Probably not, ever.
