2wd trailing arm crossmember?

Well I opened a can of worms when I put a 9" diff and 4" aluminum drive shaft in my blazer. The off set of the diff yolk, the 6" drop and the large drive shaft has created about a 1/2 space between the trailing arm crossmember hoop and the drive shaft ( on the top and the passanger side of the hoop) Since I was worried about having so little clearance I purchased a early classics trailing arm crossmember. It arrived yesterday and the hoop appears small. ( might need to call nate for one of his) Any one else running a non stock cross member? Should I be so concerned with the lack of clearance? Any help would be much appreciated!
