Re: Yes, another Suburban. Can these things become an addiction?.
14 bolt rears come in 2 flavors.
1. Heavy duty (6200 lb) full floating axles, 14 bolts hold the rear cover on and has a removable pinion carrier that has 6 bolts. Ring gear sets right of center. 2. Light duty(5000 lb) installed in heavy duty 1/2 ton 4wd and light duty 3/4 ton trucks 2wd and 4wd. Comes in square bodies in an 8 lug pattern and 88 and up in 6 or 8 lug. Has a 14 bolt rear cover, but no pinion carrier in front. Ring gear sets left of center. The design of the carriers allow for the distinctive ring gear placement of these 2 axles. The semi-float cover is rounder than the full float cover which is more angular. I'll post up pictures. 1. 14 bolt Full Float rear cover 2. 14 bolt FF axle and hub 3. 14 bolt Semi Float rear cover 4. 14 bolt SF rear brakes 5. 14 bolt SF 6 lug The 4 wheel drive six and eight lug rear Semi Float axles are close to the same width WMS to WMS (wheel mounting surface) as the front axles (which are normally wider than the rear) if you get it from the 88 and up body style. Not sure of the spring perch measurement though. Last edited by justcuz; 03-25-2010 at 04:58 PM. |
