Fuel cell sending unit.

Does anyone know how long a sending unit is, from the mounting flange to the bottom of the tube, for a 63-66 Suburban? Would it work in a fuell cell?

looking to put this...

If the sending unit is too long would it be possible to cut the bottom off, cap the top off and just use it for the fuel gauge and run the fuel line from one of the outlets on the bottom of the fuel cell?
