coil and connections on '73 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

can't get any spark, so I figured I'd grab a coil from another rig. upon removal, I noticed a difference in the two. donor was a metal housing painted black. the one in my truck seems to be ceramic and reads "USE ONLY WITH EXTERNAL RESISTOR". Is there something special about his particular coil? both rigs are 1973 GM 1/2 ton 454 big blocks. my truck seems to have extra stuff on it
