rebuilding front suspension... advise?

Howdy all,
I bought a set of upper and lower control arms at the local jy to begin a rebuild project on the 81. I'm gonna build the arms first and then swap them to save some time..
Basically a stock style recon with new bjoints, bushings, tierods and idler,etc..
to tighten things up.
the truck is static dropped on 3 inch spindles and 2 inch springs.
*** 2 questions for any takers:
1.
I can price moog bushings, balljoints, and stuff at any of the parts houses, but wondered if the "Energy suspension" red bushings are worth the extra cost? (I am not an aggressive driver, so the handling part is not AS important to me)
I have heard that they are a little noisy.
2.
To get the camber correct there is a mess of shims on the upper arm.
I have had 2 instances where the shims come out and I have to take
it back to the front end shop.
Any fixes for this while the arm is off?
I thought about making a couple of thick shims out of bar stock. (like 2 1/4 inch shims) that bridge from one upper control arm bolt to the other that can be put on prior to installing the arm. (with holes instead of slots)
