My new 65 GMC lwb "parts truck"
So I showed you what I have to work with
When I pulled the front sheetmetal off my truck a couple weeks ago I discovered my frame was cracked all the way through under the drs side motor mount. I know it can be fixed but I'm not real thrilled about that. So I decided to keep looking around for some more parts. I came across this truck on CL last week so I went and checked it out. It's got a lot of better sheet metal than my truck has plus it's a Custom Cab so I bought it........for $200!! I think I did pretty good! The guy I bought it from said it was running until he pulled out the gas tank but I'm just going to strip it down and make 1 truck out of the 2 now. This one has better fenders, hood, at least the drs door, plus the nearly perfect chrome grill, maybe some of the bed parts and a solid frame. It's got the usual rotten bed floor but I don't think it's as bad as mine is, I should be able to use some of the cross supports, mine are really bad. I'll use my cab since it has an unmolested dash and the floor doesn't have as much swiss cheese. I bought 2 really great bedsides from FrizzleFry a couple weeks ago so I think I've got a pretty good start now. I found a local powder coating company that does blasting so I'll probably narrow down my parts and have him start on some. Probably have the frame powdercoated with the suspension pieces also, it seems pretty inexpensive. Notice the highly sought after wiper delay and keyless ignition in the new Custom cab!! lol The greasy straight 6 I guess I'll have to start a build thread here shortly. BTW does anyone know if the Custom emblems are reproduced anywhere, I'm missing one.
