NP205 shifter boot alternative
The shifter boot on my NP205 was shredded and let in a lot of noise and smell so I had been looking for another one for a while. Never could find one used that was the same as mine and I can't justify spending $30 plus shipping on a new one.
I was looking for a leather third gen F-body manual trans shifter boot to use like I did on my 68 Camaro to adapt a ratchet shifter to the stock floor console but couldn't find one. I happened across a wrecked Saturn with a manual trans and it had a similar leather shifter boot to the F-body part but it was on a rectangular plastic retainer and the size matched the NP205 boot footprint exactly. I pealed it off the plastic retainer, cut the stitching in the corners to allow the edge to sit flat on the floor, punched the mount screw holes in the edge to make it clamp down with the NP205 boot retainer ring then drilled out the plastic shifter handle bezel in the top of the boot to match the NP205 shifter. Fits great, looks like it belongs and cost all of $3.
