5 months to retirement, what to do?
In 5 months I will be retiring. I'm a heavy truckdriving instructor and work for the Dept of the Interior. My retirment will be $1,500 per month. Since I have expensive tast and like to throw tons of money at my project trucks, I'll need something else to do.
I do not care to drive truck anymore. However there are other things I can do. I'm ASE certified in 7 areas, I have a degree in Automotive technogly, I have made "How to" vidios for truck hobbiest, and I have been an active truck builder for 35 or so years. I have a nice, well equipped (and air conditioned) shop. I would love to stay home and just build trucks, but that won't pay the bills. I'm looking for a job that is Truck/HotRod related. A friend has a big media blaster for sale. It's huge and he wants $9,000 for it. Is stripping old cars a good business to get into? Another area that I'm considering is becoming a sales rep for Lincoln or Miller. I don't know if these jobs are avalible at this time though. I also thought of becoming a "Rust Doctor". You bring me a truck with a rusted out cab corner and I repair it for say $100 or so. Sound good? Any other ideas? Like I said before, I'd love to build trucks at home but sadly there is no way I could make money at it. A previous post by a retired guy got me thinking about this.
