cut coils

I cut 1 1/2 coils off the front springs of my '65, and the cross member is sitting pretty low to the ground. (About 6-7" I would guess)I haven't driven it yet. I am also running a 15" rally wheel and 245/60/15 bfg's all the way around. Did I cut too much off to be using this tire/wheel combo to be safe? It sits at a nice height, but I also don't want to tear the front end off going down the road. If it is too low can I just put in a rubber spacer under the coils to bring it up some or is that a bad idea? Any thoughts? thanks....
