82 gmc 4x4 electric problems

got a 82 gmc 4x4 that use to be a diesel now it has a vortec 350 and a 350 trans and the problem is the temp gauge go's all the way to the left when i crank it, then now it sorta go's back and fourth with the engine.... i just bought a newly used cluster and it's doing the same thing pretty much and as far as the other gauges they work and every once in awhile like the amp hand will stop and i can bump it and it will start working or it has blown a couple fuse but any help would be appreciated????
