Motor & tranny options

My 63 4x4 Burb currently has a 283 and a 4 on the floor tranny, not sure which model.

The 283 seems to be running well and the tranny seems to be also.

My dilema, I've always had a thing for a 350. I've rebuilt 2 in the past, long past but still... Also I'm getting to old and lazy to be double clutchin a manual.

So my ? to y'all is; What would I gain by swapin in a 350/th350 or newer tranny, what would I lose?

Would mpg be much different? What about T-case?

I think finding a newer 350 with an auto and a t-case might be the way to go. Possible a wrecked 4x4 Burb or p/u as donor. But then you have the whole computerized stuff too. I like simple carberated stuff.

Thoughts?
