65 frame/front 72 disc brake/steering questions?

I'm putting a 72 front crossmember complete with all 72 steering linkage ect. into my 65? Short 2wd frame.
Questions:
-I noticed that the rod that hangs off the passenger side frame and attaches to the steering linkage is bent differently/more of an angle then the original one. What's the name of this rod for future reference? Should I drill a new upper hole or put the original back on. I'm not sure why they are bent differently. Does it have to do with the 3/8" dimples that were on the 72 frame attachment points?
-When putting on the 72 Power steering box. Can I just use some 3/8" flat stock to compensate for the 65 not have the dimples to clear the steering box? Then simply drill 2 new holes.
Thanks in advance
