402 Oil Pumps

Is there something I need to know about 402 oil pumps. We bought a 72 GMC with a 402 for my brother in law and drove it from Dallas to Niagara Falls. Everytime we made a right turn, the oil pressure went to zero for a few seconds.
I have a 72 Cheyenne Super with a 402, and I have recently developed the same problem.
What's up, and is the problem characteristic of the 402?
