Aftermarket Engine crossmember ?
I am looking at converting my 68 longhorn frame to a 4wd. Plans were to build a Cummins Driveline but the long term cost comparison and simplicity of repair keeps going back to a gas truck. I need to be able to fix it quickly. The working season is short for reroofing here in Ontario so I can't wait 2 weeks for non stocked parts.
So what I have decided to build is a gas 4x4. I am looking for options on engine and transmission crossmembers. Are there any company's that custom make one ? I am planning on building a big block with a 4L80 attached to a 205 case. I have been offered a 3/4 ton Dana 44 supppsto be a " military" Axel. Whatever that means.... Thicker tubing anyone have experience with them ? The truck will be used for my roofing business I only will be using 4wd to crawl up steep driveways towing a 6000lb trailer . Any help or input on what I should be using is appriciated. This it the body that will be used on the completed frame.
