To Vent or Not To Vent That is the Question

I am replacing the heater blower motor on my non-a/c '64 GMC 1000. The old motor had a plastic plug in the hole on the side of the motor. The new blower motor did not come with a plastic hole plug. Should I reuse the old plug? Or should is this hole supposed to allow the motor to vent heat? Thoughs?
