Those are your two typical options. You can go with later center caps, too, like on 88-98s with styled steel wheel. But... there is a custom trick welding VW hubcap clips or you could figure out exactly what you need to weld to the wheel that the caps will pop over. yet pry back off. I have hubcaps hung on mt barn using 3 galvanized common head nails, like 4 or 6 penny. The heads are stuck out from the wall and angled some so the cap pops on, is held flush and snug, and I can pop it back off. How it's done is more crucial on a spinning wheel, but something like that could be made to work
