Steerring Column length?

Installed the steering column to be able to steer the truck in and out of the garage easier while on this build. I rebuilt the column... and converted it from auto on the column to a floor shift column... its really loose and flops around a bit. Thats not good.. Ill have to pull it apart again to find out what I may have done wrong... something to do with cutting the linkage tab off the bottom maybe... but the questions is, whats the normal length for 67? This thing it way too long for me, and once I pull it back out I would like to shorten it... a lot.

When guys do this, what are they doing to get it shorter? Are they cutting a section out of the shaft between the column and gear box and welding it back?

This thing needs to be several inches shorter...
