Overheating ?

Okay my 383 is a 86 block and Im using the heat ascending unit from that year. I have it in a port in the back on the drivers side. Im just wondering if the ohms is different then say a 68 and its throwing my factory gauge off or what. Im running a 180 thermostat so Im at a loss. I have the old 202 heads so I don't have a place in the head to install it. The only other place I have is in the top of the water pump. Any suggestions? I have a 1968 with factory gauges. Should I just use a heat ascending unit for a 68?
