Ignition rod connection to the lock cylinder

Hello gents I have a bit of a problem with my 1976 k10 I attempted to start my truck and it felt like it was binding so I re attempted to start it and heard a pop and now the key free spins so I replaced the cylinder and it does the same thing. When I twister the key the rod doesn't move has anyone had this issue and fixed it ? I hate having to push on my ignition box to start the truck. And it instead of fixing it has anyone added a push button start and kill switch to the truck instead ?
