Ls swap fuel tank explanation

OK, I HAVE A 71 SWB THAT WE COMPLETED A 6.0 LS SWAP FROM A 2006 CHEVY 2500. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE PLACES THAT YOU MUST HAVE A FUEL TANK CAPABLE OF EFI. I HAD AN OLD FUEL CELL FROM A PONTOON BOAT LAYING AROUND AND BUILT A FRAME TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THE FUEL PUMP IS EXTERNAL AND THE SENDING UNIT IS A GENERAC ALL PURPOSE UNIT FROM THE PARTS HOUSE. EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING AND RUNNING FINE.
AM I MISSING SOMETHING...? I CANT SEEM TO JUSTIFY $700-$800 ON A FUEL CELL WHEN THE ONE I PUT IN WORKS FINE, BUT EVERYWHERE I READ THAT YOU MUST HAVE A FUEL CELL SPECIFICALLY FOR EFI?

PLEASE HELP ME ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS. IF I AM SCRUBBING PERFORMANCE DO TO A CHEAP FUEL CELL THEN IM ALL IN ON THE RIGHT ONE!!
