Re: Rarity of a 6-lug semi floating Dana 60?

I have an original 6 lug semi float D60 coil spring rear with drum brakes. Instead of outfitting it with rear disc brakes, I found it easier to rebuild the drum brakes and wanted maintain originally on this one. All hardware can be purchased for this rear but it takes time. In order to fit this rear with discs you have to send it to one of the axle companies that does this type of work, i.e., Strange, Moser, DTS.

I recently sent a 3/4 ton D60 full float coil spring rear I have to one of the these companies to do this very conversion to rear disc's. This is a very doable conversion. They cut the ends off and weld on a Ford big bearing or Mopar bearing adapter, your choice. Then you have to pick which disc brake kit to go with, i.e. Little shop mfg or Wildwood, etc. Once you know your wheel mounting surface to wms measurements, you can have the axle company make your axles to the length you need and 5 or 6 lug. It's not hard but you have to know what you want.
I think it's a worthwhile investment/improvement even though it's months before you get it back.
