700R4 behavior....
Well after figuring out some of the problems keeping me from doing a nice road test I finally put about 5 very loud miles on the '78 today. It feels to me (and sounds too) that the tranny is holding the gears too long. First runs up to around 25, and second to about 45. I didnt pay attention to the others, going too fast with not so great brakes. It is getting all the gears though (execpt lockup, dont have that wired in yet), just comparing it to my S10 (4L60E) its running them out too far. This is with maybe 1/2 throttle probably less. Giving the S10 the same amount it shifts to second around 15 mph. It will be in 4th (od) and locked up by 45-48, so thats also the big reason I think something is wrong. The tranny has a shift kit, extra frictions, the bigger pump all the updated stuff to make it stronger. Would any of that affect how long it holds the gears? I want to go get the exhaust ran on it, but will have to go about 10-15 miles and I dont wanna burn up my new tranny.
I'm thinking I need to adjust more on my TV cable, but does it need to be longer or shorter? I ran the carb linkage all the way back and the cable will not pull out anymore with it at WOT. This is basically what the bowtie overdrives instructions said to do. Then it goes on about pressure tests and stuff, which I didnt do b/c I dont have the guages and stuff. Thanks Paul
