Dimmer Switch Relocation

I would like to move my floor mounted dimmer switch over to the right about 4" or so. How big of a job is this? Is it just a matter of drilling a new hole, moving it and filling the old hole. Also, would new carpet come with the dimmer hole already cut out, because I plan on buying a new carpet kit this spring, and if the hole is already cut, that makes moving the dimmer a bit more of a chore. Thanks.
