Alternator electrical question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok well at the moment I have my fan shroud and fan off and I'm painting the fan shroud..can't stand the yellow, half painted mess that it has been since I got the truck

. Anyways with all the extra room I changed my alternator belt. This got me looking at the HORRIBLE wiring going on in my engine compartment. My question is, where are the wires from the alternator supposed to go? I looked at the wiring diagram posted in the FAQ section but its to complicated because my wiring is so messed up I can't even tell whats what. Right now they have the power from the alternator going to a 4 way pile up where it there continues through one wire across the radiator and into the fusebox maybe???...and then they have a wire connected directly to the positive battery post going across the radiator and again possibly into the fusebox???...its a horrible mess.

Just a little explaination of what wire goes where in the engine compartment would be a huge help...thanks
