67 Door Handle Replacments - problem and solution

I found that aftermarket door handles for '67 trucks don't exactly match the originals, and if you don't fix it your handles won't fit. See the pics below...


Pic 1: Notice that the bolt's angle of attack is different. This means that the top of the door handle will be loose when you tighten down the bolt and it will leave an ugly gap.

Pic 2: You can see the angles by looking through the door handle hole. Since the blue and red lines are not parallel, the aftermarket handle won't tighten up.

Pic 3: My solution - take some old hex nuts (you'll need 2 per handle) and grind them down into wedges. The wedge angle should match the difference between the orig. handle and the new. Basically matching the triangle in pic 1. You'll also need slightly longer bolts.

Pic 4: The results - nice and tight handles on a dusty truck.
