dash plug terminal removal

I want to install a 7 hole-guage dash. Question. How do I get the terminals out of the plug for re-location? What I mean is the wires go into a 12 terminal plug that fits in the back of the cluster. These wires have to be moved from there present postions to new places in the plug , or it's gonna melt down and won't work.. How then does one remove the individual wires, with the terminals still attached to switch them to their now positions. They don't seem to simply pull or push out, so there must be a clip that holds them in there spots. Where and with what does a person press to release these pieces?
