Electric Fuel Pumps

Guys, on my 72 SWB I removed the gas tank behind the seat and installed a Blazer tank between the frame rails instead. I kept my stock fuel pump, however I have noticed when my truck sits overnight and I try to start it the next morning I have pump the heck out of the throttle before I get gas in the carb to start it. Also I have had two occasions this week where I will be just cruising down the road and all of a sudden the motor just feels like it is falling on it's face then kicks back in again. I am thinking I may have a fuel pump going out. Have any of you seen this problem and also what experiences have you had installing an electric fuel pump? Any recommendations as to which pump to get?
