Noise Question

I was defeated by a problem on my truck project and left it alone for six months or so. I have come back to it and still have the problem. Here's the story. I had a 350 crate motor from GM in my C10 with about 4000 miles on it, if it matters I had a TH350 in the C10. I swapped the motor into my K20 project, 4 speed . I put a new harmonic balancer on the motor. There is a lot of noise from, I think, the front of the motor when it runs. It sounds like metal scraping. I took off the belts from the power steering and the alternator ( the sound was like one of them had a bad bearing). The noise changed when I did this, but it's still there and still pretty loud. Has anyone any idea what the trouble could be ? Is there anything stupid that I could have done when I put on the new harmonic balancer ? Thanks Bernie
