Power Steering Fluid

This weekend, I checked the level of the power steering fluid. It's right up where it's supposed to be, but when I wiped the dip-stick, the oil was not pink, it was tan like engine oil? I haven't had to touch the PS fluid in the 2 years I've owned the truck, it was always full. Did the previous owner get confused about which fluid went where? Or is it a clear PS fluid that's burnt? Aside from a slight squeal when I turn it all the way to lock, the power steering hasn't given me any problems. I'm a little confused on this?
