Diesel was run in a '66 Chevy C10...what now?

I'm about to start the process of fixing up a 1966 Chevy C10 truck that had a tank of diesel filled in it. It died in a ball of smoke and was parked 10 years ago when it was parked and has sat since then. The engine block is coated in black sludge. I'm curious to know what the possibility is for rebuilding the 283 V8 that's in it. Does this sort of thing cause damage that requires an engine rebuild or can this be cleaned out without open heart surgery?

Thanks
