That might have been a reference to the computer controlled carbs used on some of the cars in the 1980s. The connector on our trucks is just for the accelerator pump AFAIK.

The Edelbrock 1904, an emissions legal quadrajet sold by Edelbrock until just recently, eliminated the wire.
