Another newb from Illinois

Hi, one of the guys over at Hotrodders Bulletin Board told me about this site. I'm "Hippie" over there and at Fullsize Chevies but it appears you already had one of those here so I had to pick a different user name. I'm also a member over at Chevy Talk under my real name. Looks like a great site.

I have a beater of an '89 C1500 Sportside with a broken 4.3, 5 speed and 3.42's. I am collecting parts to build a 8.6 comp. 350 roller motor using TRW D-cup blower pistons, a GM Marine roller cam, "quiet" gear drive, Vortec heads, Edelbrock Performer, Q-Jet and 1-5/8" ceramic coated headers. I have almost everything either here or on it's way and then it's off to the machine shop. Even with 8.6 static compression the Marine roller cam boosts my DCR high enough that running on 87 Octane will be possible but marginal, I normally run 89 Octane anyway. I will be keeping the 5 speed and 3.42's and adding a Competition Plus shifter and posi. It will get a 3 - 4 drop and eventually a real paint job but for now I can live with the primer. It gives it "character" . Maybe one of these days when I get the lowering kit installed I'll post a pic.
