earl's stainless brake lines...don't fit.:(

I bought the Earl's stainless braided brake line kit awhile back, have just now had time to install them.
I bought some new calipers and painted them, old ones were original and did not feel like cleaning them.
anyway, paint is all dry, and I'm getting out my wrenches to take the old lines off and new ones on, I decide to go ahead and install the caliper end of the hose first, and they don't fit. The square end is too big for the caliper, will not go far enough for bolt to screw in.

Just when I thought I would get this thing back together...
