fuel pressure guage

I got a liquid filled fuel pressure guage because I thought it would be more accurate. It is not, once it gets hot it will not read fuel pressure correctly any more, I have come to find out this is the way they are once they build up pressure. My question is mine has a rubber plug in it if I remove it the liqiud comes out. If I drain it all out will it still read right or are the calibrated to only work when the liqiud is in them?

thanks
