Cheyenne Short wide box

I have watched this forum for a long time to try and get a good idea about what I would need to pay for a good short wide box and could never get a good idea. I had bought a 1972 Cheyenne Super and (like a lot of guys) want to change the long bed into a short bed. I had heard about these parts and had sent a good friend to go and look at them. It is basically all the parts for a short Cheyenne except the cab. It has the bed and front clip you see in the pictures. The frame had been cleaned and then painted. All the bolt on suspension and parts have been powder coated. I also get four good doors and one extra fender. This is not one of those stories that it seems everybody else has about finding everything for $200. (LOL). I am told the floor of the bed is solid with only some surface rust. Now for the bad news. I had to pay $3000 to get everything. I figure just the savings in body work and rust repair should help recoup the cost. But of course the little woman is not too happy. Did I mess up here?
