Lightbulb knock/ping update

Ya know my choke was not up to par - acting funny. Sprayed some carb cleaner on the linkage while it was idling and noticed rpm went way down, almost died. No the cleaner did not go into the carb intake. It did go into the the intake at the base gasket, however. Tightened the carb mounting bolts (seemed pretty loose) and the idle again went down, almost died. Set the idle speed back up and I'll bet the knock/ping is also gone! Maybe the timing can be increased now. Just wanted to share this and hope it helps!

Just hope I didn't get them too tight. Only halfway out on the handle of a 1/4" drive ratchet. Can someone tell me does this mean anything other than a vacuum leak at the carb base? ie is my theory correct or have I done something to the carb. (fairly new 1904 Edelbrock)
