travel limit devices

I am putting air bags on my 4x4 so I can haul lots of firewood and let them down for a softer ride. I need to limit the travel so the bags don't pop.
I see a lot of guys use nylon straps.. I have a hard time with that idea. it just doesn't seem strong enough.

I am thinking about chain, but it seems like there might be a lot of shock and might bust something. If I hit a bumb and the truck bounces up, it could snap pretty hard.

Any good ideas?

Thanks
