Original '72 Grille Insert Question

Did the original '71/ '72 inner grilles have the top mounting tabs (the angled pieces that mount to the outer shell) painted black?

I got a repop (to replace the billet insert that the PO put on my truck) and the whole thing is silver- after installing it the tabs are more visible than what I've seen around. Gonna paint it black anyway but just wondering how the GM inner grilles came...
