dumb question- how to install radio? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Yes, it sounds like a dumb question, but dang , I'm new to the truck world and I can't figure it out. I bought a 71 truck radio for my 72 Cheyenne. I just can't figure out how to install it. If I go from the rear, the radio knob stems don't stick out far enough to fasten the nuts to attach it to the panel. On top of all this, there's not much space to work with with all those vent hoses in the way. Any suggestions?
