temp gauge and dummy light

I have a new autometer temp gauge. When I hook it up to the new sending unit and hook the temp warning light wire up to the sending unit, the temp guage reads 180 and the light is on as soon as I turn the truck on and it's cold.

Will the autometer temp guage work with the dummy light, or should I just leave the dummy light unhooked (that's the way I have been running it)

Thanks for the help
