Water Pump hose--'88 burb

Hey all,

The water pump on my '88 burb finally gave it up.

I have a question about the routing of the hose from the water pume to the radiator.

It seems the smog pump sort of gets in the way, and pinches the hose. There's a piece of foam between the smog pump and hose that I guess is supposed to keep it from chafing. I bought a replacement hose and it's the only way it'll fit.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned?

It's a GMC 1988 Suburban with most all the options.

Thanks in advance for any info you can pass along.
