1972 Chevy Pickup Ignition Problem

Howdy everyone. I have a 1972 chevy pickup with the ignition in the lower dash, right below and left of the ash tray. The lock cylinder went bad so I bought the new cylinder with the new keys. I stuck a pin in the small hole by where the key goes in, and could not get the old cylinder out. Does anyone know if there is a certain trick to getting the old one out? I even tried to take the entire switch out but had no luck with that either. Any help would sure be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
