How to remove shifter knob?

Hey,
I have a 1986 GMC Sierra and I'm trying to remove the knob from the shifter for 2H, 4H, Neutral, and 4L but it doesn't screw off so I thought it must pull off, but it doesn't even seem to budge.

Can anyone tell me the correct way to remove it? Maybe I just need to pull harder?
