Drop Spindles; How do I identify...
...which "drop spindles" I have, if I even really have them. What looks different on a drop spindle(compared to a stock spindle)? Is it just the location of the spindle itself between the upper and lower ball joint mounts? What is that distance on stock spindle- exactly in between? When I look at little jpegs of drop spindles on DJM, Summit, etc. websites, it looks like the tie rod arm is different too. Also, what do drop coils look like- how do they differ from cut coils?
I ask because I bought my current truck (swb, combo 81 & 86 parts from what I can discern) before I really knew what to look for and the previous owner claims he and his buddy lowered the truck "the right way." Needless to say, I have been finding problem after problem, not just in the suspension either. I'm interested in ditching the flimsy looking drop shackles out back, in exchange for a flip kit, and I wanted to rebuild the front end- new bushings, etc.- and while I was in there, replace the stock spindles I'm assuming are there with drop ones and corresponding coils for a 4/6 static drop.
Thanks for any help on this. And before anyone puts up that annoying emmoticon, I'll be posting pics later this week when I get it on my friends lift...
