One Owner 68 GMC 2500 Custom High Option Advice
Hello, all. New member here needing advice.
The remnants of hurricane Ike collapsed my barn onto 8 tractors and my black 1968 GMC 2500 Custom crushing the roof and damaging the hood and both front fenders. The truck is equipped with working factory air, bucket seats with buddy seat, 327 4V, turbo 400 and 4.10 Dana 60 posi rear axle. Everything worked and prior to the collapse, it was undamaged. My father bought it new when he retired from GM Truck and Coach in 1968. It was insured as a classic, and the insurance adjuster has informed me that the company will likely consider it a total loss and settle for around $7,500 allowing me to keep salvage. Interestingly, the adjuster is a 67-72 Chevy truck enthusiast, and is familiar with these vehicles. Repairing it would require a rust free AC cab, hood, both front fenders as well as a windshield and odds and ends. Though a good mechanic, I do not do body work and have no place to do such work even if I did. Anyone have thoughts regarding the proposed settlement and/or repair advice, recognizing that I will need to hire someone in the Cincinnati, OH area do the work. Thanks in advance. Dean |
