Buy a sub $1K fixer-upper?
I'm looking to buy a 60-66 in the next couple of months, but will have a 3 digit budget.... I know I might get something without a motor and probably without paint, but I'm super enviuos of my parents 1957 and want an old truck of my own. I'd pick a '55-'59 or 67-72 over this generation in a heartbeat, but there 60-66 trucks seem to be cheaper.... significantly cheaper, has anyone else noticed this?
Anyway, what are some good things to look for on these trucks when buying a junker? I will not touch anything that has a rotted cab, I've already got a rot box '72, dont need anymore. I may have to travel a few hundered miles down south, but we will see about that. At this budget I dont have any preferences, SWB/LWB, I6/V6/, Floor shift or column.... I just want something solid to tinker on, maybe even get on the road to mess around with. I have a couple Ebay/Craiglist trucks here, tell me what you think. '66 GMC 3/4t $1000 http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/941681670.html '63 Chevy I TOTALLY missed out on, sold for $700!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180313355813 '60 GMC reserve never met, looks OK aside from some bondo... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=260332974573 '64 GMC w/ blown V6 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250345753401 If anyone sees anything somewhat close to NY, post it up....
