I think they came standard and were required by law beginning that year.
I bought a new flarestat flasher for a fairly reasonable price from a local truck supply shop...not custom trucks...commercial. It looks like the originals. I have also seen the originals on ebay with the bowtie or gmc emblem on the red knob, but always found them pricey for not being guaranteed to work. Flarestat is the company name if you want to find them online.
